Why on earth would they give you Valvoline when they tell you to use Mobil 1?
That's what I was wondering.

I got one from Island Mitsu. in LI NY they offered me a free oil change if I test drive any new mitsu... I agree I would only go for the free filter, letting someone else touch my evo is like someone else taking my wife out not happening!

On another note, I wouldn't risk going to a dealership and having them discover any mods on my car that would void any type of agreement or warrenty
Isn't it true that whatever you put on the car voided that part only? Not all the warranty is voided? At least that's what the service writer told me. I was straight and honest with them. I mean, I hate to remove all the mods and reinstall the oem parts then redo them all over again you know.

I'm curious, every one here seems to say this warranty flag is true but has anyone experienced it or know someone on the inside that does this. I ask only cause one im new to my evo but I work as a Tech. for a very large toyota dealership and we have no system of flagging cars nationwide etc. I mean I have worked and done warranty repairs on many toyotas and scions, as long as the part damaged wasn't aftermarket or damaged due to the modification... just curious

the dealership cannot "flag" your car...

unless what they are fixing is caused by some modification, they cannot not do anything

No thanks they closed all the dealerships in my area which forces me to go way upstate or drive to the bronx. Service only has Mon thru Fri work hours. Plus I really don't want to go back to Mobil 1. I'm using Amsoil SS with a Wix filter

Because it was cheapest oil they have currently.

Are you absolutely sure about that, because they snapped pics of my engine bay, when I went in to have the wing replace, due to clearcoat issues. So you sir, might not know what you're talking about. Is it ethical...NO, but are some/many dealerships doing that...YES.

Don't mind the free oil change, but my closest dealership is 20 miles away. Gas alone is $6+ dollars for that trip. Not to mention the time spent waiting.

I find the evo IX is one of the easiest cars to change oil on. especially with a fumoto valve installed. I Don't even need to lift it to get a pan under there and reach the filter.
