I was 18 when I got mine, just had to save up a nice down payment (4k) and it was mine...

I'm 21, still paying on it, but I'm so glad I got it

yeah i could get one for like 6-9k, then the parts to repair probably like 3-4k.

So running at a max 13K, then its mine no more payments.

Which i could do.

Got mine when I came back from Iraq.

Bought my 2006 Apex Silver Mitsubishi Evolution for $26,000 + TTL in 2008.

It had 20,000 miles on it, it worked perfect, showroom condition.

Dropped $10,000 cash, rest on finance.

When I bought it I was a 24 year old U.S. Army Sergeant.

You guys are some young-uns when you got your Evos.

Just make sure you are ready for the:

1) Insurance & 2) Upkeep (Evos are maintenence ******)

Just a word of warning. Don't be suprised if your monthly insurance is $300.00+

A 15/16 year old with a "4 Door, 4 Cylinder, ***TURBO***" doesn't look well in insurance companies eyes.

Besides that, go for it.

I don't think they're too bad on the maintenance side. Just make sure to take care of it and since your dad will be building it - make sure to get a nice clutch and ensure the tranny is good.

Got mine when I was much older than ya'll - 31. I was into turbo diesels prior so it wasn't like it was a long-time dream. In fact, I got the Evo cause my buddy got an STi and I told him he should have at least test driven the Evo.

Insurance is gonna be a *****...but since you are getting a salvage then you wont be financing it so you could probably skip the comprehensive and save yourself some good money there, not to mention your old man is a mechanic/body man? I bought my 2003 AS w/ 16k milesfrom a salvage yard in 2005 for 12k. paid about 6k to fix it up and have been loving it ever since. Word to the wise the glass is expensive and can be hard to get...Mitsubishi uses special lightweight glass on the car. Try your best to find used parts on the internet. As for cost of ownership you gotta be ready to shell out ~600 a year on tires, 200 on Brake pads, I do about $200 worth of oil changes a year (My DD), and still have some money set aside just incase. Spend some time reading around this forum to get a good idea of what you may be getting yourself into.

i was 17 when i got my first evo, it was my 4th car though. Im a big car guy and was changing clutch's in fox body mustangs when i was 13-14 yrs old haha, so im mature for my age.

biggest thing is if your mature enough to repect the car.

goodluck, and FYI yes they are fast haha

I had car notes my entire lifeand they suck so I would say any car you can get thats relatively new and won't carry a car payment is the way to go. I was blessed enough to by my 06 IX EVO cash. Spoiled though because now I don't ever want to finance.

I was 42 when I got my first Evo. Spent a long time in school, got married, started a family and bought a house, and after everything was well taken care of, I bought myself an Evo.

If your total will be about 13k, might as well look around for one that doesn't need body work. I've seen a few on here in the range of 13-16.

In any case, got my Evo when I was 21, from a relative who was moving away. It was an 03 with 66k, all stock. I wasn't looking for a car, nor did I care too much about an Evo, but it was a deal I couldn't resist, so I bought it. Couldn't be happier with that decision. Now has 97k, and serving as a dd/autox car. Do yourself a favor and save for the evo, you will hate yourself if you get the Lancer.

I got my evo when I was 22.. I'm 23 now.. Next week I will have it for a year now and I'm loving my Evo! I don't think its a good car for someone whos 16 and just getting their license.. At that age you don't have enough experience.. But its a cool car to have at 16!!!
