Apparently the best way to clean an intercooler is with acetone. There was another thread on this just the other day.

Gasoline works wonders as well. You will have to do several rinses to get the best results.

Well, if it's grease, that stuff will cut it. I'm thinking the safest is a parts cleaner, or steam but I'm not sure how you would do either in your garage. You definitely want to clean that out though. You can thank that nasty film to the crank blow buy hose that's plumbed into your intake pipe.

I used dishwashing liquid. Just rinse it out until no more suds come out. Air dry for a whole 24 hours or stick hair dryer to one end tank. Viola, clean fmic.

i would cap off one end of the intercooler with a coupler and pvc cap like from a boost leak tester and fill it with whatever cleaning solution you decide on and then cap the other end and then shake it vigorously until clean

After you clean your IC, I think it's time for a catch can.

Using gasoline is the best way imho. Ive done it several times and if your careful and obviously not have any flames around and do it in a well ventilated area, you should have no problem.

Pour some gasoline in one end, cap both ends or put your hands around the holes, and swish around. Pour it out, and keep doing that until the gasoline comes out clear.
