Exhaust smell when turbo spools

Ok so on my way to work this morning I noticed the smell of exhaust inside the car, but only when my turbo spools. Haven't had the time to check it out yet, obviously there's an exhaust leak somewhere, just wanted to get a few ideas before I tear into it.

manifold to head, manifold to turbo, o2 housing to downpipe

most likely if your smelling it in the car, its somewhere in the engine bay

Yeah i figured that its probably coming from the engine bay, just kind of curious as to what it can be seeing that it only happens under boost. I rebuilt my motor about 1500miles ago so the head to manifold gasket, manifold to turbo gasket, and turbo to o2 housing gasket have all been replaced. I didnt replace the downpipe one so thats where ill start. Just kind of funny that it just started doing it.

I had the same problem. it was the donut gasket from the o2 housing to the downpipe.

Was the donut gasket visibly deformed? I recently changed my hotside to the 10.5 and started smelling exhaust in the car on spoolup as well. I checked the manifold and O2 housing bolts twice while putting everything together and all seemed well. I used new gaskets when we put everything together but maybe the donut didn't seat right.

Thanks,
Franc

I have the same issue with my gsx, gas smell on spool, I broke one of the studs on the exhaust manifold that holds it to the head, so ill be removing and replacing the gasket there as well as installing a new stud or two when I put my 14b on with FMIC this summer when shes off the road

What it actually turned out to be was the two bolts and two studs that hold the turbo to the manifold had started backing off, so thats where the leak was coming from, i believed it had something to do with them being over torqued when installed. Replaced the bolts and nuts and torqued to factory spec and so good so far.
