Yes I guess I should be more specific, bank 1 which sensor is it. And damn I hate people like you. Why be such a wise a$$ about it? Dont say anything if u have.nothing nice to say. The time it took u to type that u could have told me if it was a front or rear I assume bank 1 is the front but this is my first turboed car. My.lightning has 6 o2 sensors 4before cats and 2 after. Just didnt know how many these cars have all I can find is 2 but just asking thanks for being hostile

It's a catalytic converter code. The purpose of the second o2 sensor is to detect if the catalytic converter is working. You probably don't even have a cat (just like most of us )

I do have a cat I read all the posts about this, about placing that o2 spacer etc, I.blew my lower intercooler pipe, drove the car about 5 miles limping it off the highway, and thats when the light came on, thats whats making me think I fowled a o2 sensor the car is bone stock besides a intake and wheels and suspension

P0420- is for fault on bank 1 sensor 2 (rear o2). I doubt that anything happened to the sensor if you just blew a pipe off. Try erasing the code and disconnecting the neg batt. Terminal for a few minutes. If the code comes back then keep in mind that it can be tuned out fairly easily.

The feeling is mutual trust me. After years and years of car forums it gets quite annoying. P0420 is the same OBDII code in every car post 2006.
Rear O2 sensor catalyst system efficiency below threshold bank 1. So if you do not have a cat and an O2 fix you'll get this code. You blew an IC pipe off.
My suggestion is clear the code, drive around and see if it returns chances are it wont.
What I said was not mean. It was a simple question, why someone would not do a simple internet search or even a search on here prior to starting a thread is beyond my comprehension I guess.
Yes, next time search it's amazing the wealth of info out there

So i guess I still dont understand every car or truck ive ever worked on bank 1 was pre cat and bank 2 was post cat. So you guys are saying code p0420 is bank 1 below threshold is the rear sensor after the cat? Again the car is bone stock, I am not taking it to the tuner untill I buy.my exhaust.and other minor upgrades. So in theory if I replace my rear o2 sensor and the light still comes on I need a new cat? Ive cleared the light and it does come back on. My only thing about replaces the cat is my lightning had nitrous on it and I destroyed the cats.and it ran like dog ****, my.car still runs and drives fine? So that can eliminate the cat or do you think its partial clogged? I agree I apologize for saying.what I did, I should have been more specific.

It's just an annoying light, it doesn't affect performance. Tuning it out or putting a spacer would be pretty much the same effect to drivability as putting a piece of tape over the CEL.
All the rear sensor does is compare airflow to the first sensor. If its relatively the same, then the system thinks your cat is effed up because there's nothing to restrict the airflow.

It's not a sensor that is bad. The 2nd sensor triggers faulty cat and sets the light/code. I use o2 extension for over 3 years and it works just fine. If you had bad 2nd o2 sensor you would have a different code.
