coolant leak help

Hi everyone!

I am leaking coolant out of what I believe is a drain hose from the firewall. It is right near the steering column to the left (looking under the hood). Could this be the heater core? That is what I'm leaning towards, but not 100%. Once the car heats up, smoke comes out of the vents as if the coolant is burning.

Any info/suggestions would be appreciated.

most likely heater core, since you say it is coming out of the evaporator drain and it smokes from the vents.

Ok I ordered one off ebay.

thanks

Milage is just under 52k. Its an 04 Rs that i bought off AWD with 48k in the summer while I was over seas and i just keep finding problems here in there. It is a salvage title from a minor bumper accident. But I really can't get to the bottom of what was all done to it. It is more of a RSish. It has a different dash, I don't think the roof is aluminum, fog lights...just little things here and there.

Thanks for your help.

Yes heat does still work but when it is warm the coolant is burning. I can see the steam and smell.

I started talking down the dash and I can see coolant coming from the white box where the core sits in. Does not look like a fun project since I'm doing this out side in Michigan. But hey, it could be worse.

Thanks again for your help!

My ex had an 04 RS that had a heater core go bad at low millage. Had Mitsu do the job at the time under warranty.

Similar description of what you are noting. She had some coolant pool inside the cabin as well

Certainly not a fun job. Good Luck

I wish I could get it done under warranty. It will be just me, the cold, and the manual

See I was right with the heater core. I will say this Awdmotorsports really ****ed him on this car in my book. Chris I do feel better today so if you need me I am around and I can come out and maybe give a hand if needed.

Glad you got it done. Can you take a picture of how it looks?
Just curious. Thanks

Yes I will either later today or tomorrow. It may be hard to tell but when there was coolant inside it, it came out the bottom side pretty good.
