tolulene mix.

Whats up guys. So i was currently running e85 but salt lake is gonna stop carrying it. So my step-dad owns a tape company and gets 55 gallon drums of tolulene and i was thinking of a good mix. I know most people say 30% tolulene but i want over 100 octane! To get 104 im looking at 31 gallons of tolulene and 24 of 91. How would that act?? Too much?

Speaking from Exp on this matter,

Too much tolulene will make it HARD to start when cold, and poor running charactaristics. also youll need some lube with the more Tolulene u use.
Because Tolulene is good at raising the Flash point.
I.E 30% will yeild about 98 or so OCT rating, Mixed with 93 Oct
20% will yeild 96.7, 10% 94.5 [Ruff estimates but about right]
xylene will yeild more @30% giving you the 100 OCT rating but Xylene is more expensive, well here in my area it is

Tolulene OCT rating 114
Xylene OCT rating 117

My mix for our 1000HP small block chevy [with a 300 Shot nos]
Was 28% Tolulene 2% ATF [for a lube and cleaner] and 70% Race fuel [100 OCT]when we had it or 93 oct [we used what was avalibale at the time and Advanced the timing to what we had]

Would i use this fuel in my Evo? maybe if i could tune accordingly to the fuel.
Would it be easier to use meth kit? YES, also prolly cheaper then Tolulene, since tolulene has seen a dramactic Raise in price over the years, a 5 gallon pail used to be about $8 bucks back when i started painting cars... now its about $15 a gallon here.

If you REALLY REALLY have to use it, mix accordingly and and LOG your knock and tune accordingly
E85 OCT rating depends on the ethanol mix which is seasonal here in chicago [100-110 OCT]
Same with our diesel and #1 fuel blends

Is 91 the best you can get there? we can get 93,94 at almost any pump FEW spots have 100 but its like $6 a gallon
Id weight my options on
1) buying Race fuel
2) mixing the tolulene/Gas blend
3) going Meth kit
prices in your area may differ from mine, so its up to you.

Tolulene, Xylene was a common mix for the Turbo Buick Community before E85 was popular. Search over on TurboBuick.com there is plenty of info over there.

I ran Xylene once recently just to experiment. At $20/gal It doesn't make much sense to use it often. I noticed the throttle response was better but I have real no data on it. If you did try it, I would probably mix 1/2 gallons per tank with some MMO. But yeah, log log log. Something I should have done but I'm kinda impulsive and had a Lowes gift card to blow.

oh, and your plugs will still reek of alcohol weeks later when you pull them.
