03 Evo with 05 engine

Hey guys there's this guy selling his 03 evo 8 with a 05 engine swap the car has 90k the engine has 60k are there any things I should look for when I see the car or any cenrtain questions I should ask him? Or is that no big deal, should I stay away from it? Give me ur opinion guys...

It's the same exact engine. But yea it needs to be looked over like any used car

I know it's the same engine I'm gonna take it to the mitsubishi dealer to get it inspected before I buy it but I just wanted to make sure it's not big deal you know

Ask for references proving the engine swap.

Carfax/Autocheck/Dealer check the VIN on the donor engine.

thanks guys i ended up no buying the car, the car had stollen parts....

Eh that sucks but makes sense since the engines between those years were the same. For future reference, the power difference was in the turbo with the 10.5 hotside being in the 05. Now if it had an IX engine swap that would be more believable but for the cost of a swap they have invested into power mods that would give the same gains for much less.

Keep in mind swapped engines are extremely common. Not everyone does a huge power over haul when they pop a head etc; most people get a salvage engine and call it a day. It's easy to forget in an environment like this where the majority of users are performance oriented and so forth..... for every one of us there are five evos out there that people just bought like buying a honda and when their belt breaks they will get a $2500 junkyard engine and move on with their life.

Its a fair point but you probably don't want to buy the car after that person owned it.
