4g64 oil pump
Hi everyone,
I'm in a process of building a 4g64 for my Evo. My stock oil pump is Done once my motor blew. Question I have is this. Will a stock 4g64 oil pump that came on the used block work for the Evo or do I need to get a brand new Evo oil pump? It's a bit pricy lol. My builder thinks that the Evo 9 oil pump built a more pressure then the stock 4g64 oil pump. Can somebody help me out please. I'm just trying to keep the cost down if I can not trying to cut corners👍🏻
Thanks everyone

The 03-06 Evo oil pump is identical to:
2003 Outlander 2.4L
2000-2005 Eclipse/Spyder 2.4L
1998-2003 Galant 2.4L
The Evo 9 pump did not build more pressure in and of itself, the Evo 8, Evo 9 and all vehicles above use the same oil pump. The 1998 Galant used an early version that was superseded in 1999 to the identical pump as all the others would later have, including Evo. Literally, same part number for them all, exactly the same part.

Depends. On the one hand, a new pump is always going to be a good idea. On the other hand... on a 2.4L (or more to the point, "not an evo"), the odds of an oil pump failure occurring are nearly non existent if the vehicle was serviced normally.
If you do not know the history of the vehicle, like it was your grand mothers Galant or something, I'd replace the pump. There is no guarantee that the previous owner of the vehicle that block came out of didn't go 20k miles on oil changes (and YES, people do that crap all the time).
If you know it was serviced regularly (3k-5k oil changes etc), I would probably use it, were it me.
