Key stuck in ignition, steering column locked- HELP!

Hey guys,

went to swap out the bad ignition switch on my VIII and once completed I put the key in the ignition to start the car, everything starts fine etc, but the steering column is locked and the key wont turn back past ACC to be released from the key hole.

NEED ASSISTANCE!

Yes, I tried to shake the wheel left and right while turning the key to remove, no luck

yes, I tried to unlock steering wheel with car on, also no luck.

yes, I have searched the forums, no luck.

even swapped back the original ignition switch just to see, no luck there either.

I have even removed the steering wheel and clock spring to get access to the lock pin, but can't push it in while the key is in the ignition.

I am stuck.

Any help is much appreciated.

lots of views, any ideas?

this is the column lock pin *I think* but it wont depress with the key in it, nor will it press and allow the key to be removed. Thoughts?

The ignition switch is on the left side of the column. If that is what you replaced, simply pull it off and see if the key will then turn.

the key turns with the ignition switch in or not. I have the entire ignition cylinder out now, key still stuck. Will see what I can do from here.

update:

took ignition cylinder to locksmith, they were able to pull the ignition and key, they said something inside the ignition broke. Will update once they call me with what final verdict of failure was.

car is back together and working.

Somehow a piece of metal broke off inside the ignition cylinder and was causing the jam from the key to release and the steering column lock to release.

Very odd. glad to be able to drive it again

That's unfortunate but how did the locksmith fix it? What did he do?

they completely disassembled the locking cylinder, re-lubed the tumblers, and removed the metal peice that was causing the jam. Feels like new now.

I'd have never thought of putting this in the hands of a locksmith.

thats what they do. I took it to one who does re-keying for lexus etc. I had called first and told them the issue, they said bring it down and it wouldn't be a problem to get it apart.

The other way to go would include a new lock, two new keys and dealer programming (if unable to DIY). So, I'm guessing you saved time and money.
