Temperature knob hard to turn?

Im not really THAT bothered by this, but it seems when going to hot from cold or cold from hot on the temp knob, it gets extremely tight in the middle.

jsut curious if anyone else has had this problem, or if its pretty common or what. It's not that big of a deal, but when i want a temperature in the middle its difficult to get there.

I have seen the same thing in my car, check out some other Lancers at the dealership and they felt about the same. Maybe I'll take the whole thing apart and do some sanding or lube when I get bored.... Dealership may just say its normal, but it does not hurt to ask.

Pull the unit out... there are tension screws on the bottom that allow you to adjust them. They still feel like cheap crap, but you can make them much easier to turn.

Mine too. But I always leave it on cold mostly here in the west.

I refuse to let the dealer touch it. But I heard from another owner that they have to replace the whole unit to fix it. It's under warantee.

Actually I just had the EXACT same problem as you, only it was the temperature control knob, not the middle one. I took it to the dealer and they replaced the whole heating unit (under warranty) and now the knob works well. Of course they forgot to open a vent to allow hot air to go in and I had to take it back, but otherwise it is ok.

They said they have seen the problem on a number of base lancers, but never on Evos. The problem is that the rod that connects the knob to the unit binds up inside the unit and will eventually break if it is not replaced. The problem is not due to lack of lubrication or something.

Take it to the dealer, this is a common problem.

my dealer just told me that this is a common problem and that there "is a fix for it" -- my memory says he said they replace something in the mechanism to update it a bit and then it works fine. The kicker is he said, then we trhow in a cabin air filter for free yes I will give him the car to do this work sometime soon . . . .

Mine does the same thing sometimes. On the long term R&T review, they mentioned having problems with the temp knob too.

I took mine yesterday to the dealer. Their is a TSB on this repair. I made an appointment for them to fix it. The temp dial is hard as hell to turn past the middle mark; thus making me hate cold mornings and warm days

Next to the easily chipped paint, IMO this is the most significant defect with the Evo.
