The Ultimate Valentine One Concealed Setup
I finally completed my custom valentine one concealed insulation. I had the same setup in my Integra Type R. If anyone would like help with this I would be glad to lend a hand.
The project takes many hours of custom fitting and removing interior panels to get the job done. One of the most difficult parts of this project is simply removing interior parts to install all the wiring. Another area that took some thinking was fitting the remote display into the clock so that the cord does not conflict with the ventilation mechanics.
I chose to mount the concealed display in the clock position to truly make it concealed. In addition, the concealed display is ideally placed to observe while driving. I have never been fond of the idea of sticking a goofy looking plastic block in front of my speedometer/tachometer.
I went to my local automotive salvage yard and picked up another Lancer clock so I did not need to destroy mine. I then gutted the clock itself and affixed the concealed display inside. Some dremmel work on the **** shell is neccisary to proper fitment. Rubber strips are used inside to secure the electronics of the remote V1 display.
The remote audio adapter allows you to control the volume, mode setting, and the power without physically moving to the back of the vehicle (where the brain of the system is located). The audio adapter was intended for motorcyclists since it has a headphone jack. I chose those ash tray location because only the driver knows it exists. The remote audio adapter also allows you to control the V1 without taking your eyes off the road or changing your driving position.
For those of you who are not familiar with V1's - the entire system is wired/powered via phone cord.
Total costs for this project is about $125 if you already have a V1. The concealed display is $39.00 and the remote audio is $49.00. Expect to pay about $25 - $35 for a used lancer clock from a salvage yard.
Many people are confused by the idea of mounting the main unit in the rear of the vehicle. I’ve been using the same setup in my Integra for years and it works fantastically. Despite what some believe, the front seats and passengers do not significantly block radar signals. There may be a slight reduction of frontward laser reception in some situations but you’re more or less nailed anyway by the time your radar detector detects a laser signal.
Benefits
No need to remove the detector every time you park in public
Reduced chance of theft
No front windshield obstruction (driver visibility)
No reaching to adjust volume, modes, on/off settings
Police will probably never know you are using a radar/laser detector
Final Product
Installation Pictures
It’s Alive!
Added Bonus – My new head unit Alpine CDA-9857 (installed hours ago)
Enjoy!
