My paint is holdin up great also, no paint has chipped off so far. I was going ot keep mine all black, but on a rally red the red lip and red mitsu emblem centercap look amazing; although it was a little more work, the final product was well worth it
Anyone want to host the pictures of mine for me so they can be shared on here? They are too big to have as an attachment

I guess everyone has this on their agenda this Easter season. If it ever stops raining here in the northwest, I plan of doing the same thing. I understand that over time the paint may chip but IMHO, I'd rather go through the touch-up process and having the satisfication that I did the process myself (prideful I know) than paying someone $$$$ to powder coat them. I'm curious as to how the inside of the wheels were done too. Your car looks sweet bro.

BoostWhore.

Why would you go with automotive spray paint vs. engine spray paint? IMHO, I thought engine spray paint was more durable due to the fact of its high temperature ratings. I'm no chemists, but certainly an engine gets hotter than the outside of a car.

KiRrSAcE.

1. Are you saying to dip the sandpaper into water before starting to sand?
2. Do you sand "after" the primer ONLY if you have bubbles, right?

OK! Write up is nice. very thorough. However, I must input my own personal experience into this one. I owned a toyota pickup a long time ago and i decided that the stockies looked like ***, so i went down to wally world and picked up some of the automotive paint and got to work. I didnt do anything fancy like a lip. i mean, its just a POS truck. Sanded it down really nice, taped up my tires, nice thin, easy coats. looked decent, but within like a month the paint was wearing away. about 3 months later i was washing the tires and it started to come undone to the point i could see the original beneath it.

Don't Get me wrong, though, im not saying it doesnt look good. in fact, it looks pretty nice. And your method slightly differs from mine and you took more care to do it good, so your may last quite a while, but as with any paint, eventually its gonna need to be redone. I'm just too lazy to do it more than once. especially when its only like 35 dollars to get them powdercoated.

A few more questions:
1. Can 220 grit sand paper handle the sanding duties instead of the posted 340 grit?
2. What type/brand of stripper/remover was used?

1. Just keep the sand paper wet because it likes to wear out fast without water. i only used water because i had 600grit no need if you had a low grit

2.yes

I started the wheels yesterday with the initial two coats of aircraft stripper. I must say, that stuff gets it down to the aluminum. I think four coats on each wheel will do the job both inside and outside. I had to use an old fashioned ice scraper because I didn't want to mess up one of my credit cards and the generic plastic paint scrapper wasn't strong enough. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress.
