Exhaust Manifold "Stud" Removal/Replacement

EDIT: (11/28/2006)

I need the following information from anyone who may have some insight...

I believe the Studs are either M8 or M10 but I need to find out what pitch. Does anyone know what thread and pitch they are as well as length of bolts needed to replace them?

I am going to be picking up locking nuts and the Grade 8 bolts to replace the studs in order to make installation and removal of the turbo/exhaust manifold much easier in the future.

Thanks,
Carl

I've replaced various manifolds on several Evos and not once have I had to replace studs. But I can see how it could happen since there is so much heat in that area. I think replacing the studs is a precautionary step (if needed) sorta thing.

You do not have to replace the studs to replace the manifold, that is "misinformation"

Use the stockers. If you must remove a stud for a reason they sell a tool for that.

you just need a breaker bar to remove the bolts a little WD on studs before hand if you want to make it easier

That or some PB Blaster and let it soak in, once all the bolts are off then tap it with a rubber mallet a couple times.

I have replaced my manifold.

Make sure you take off the downpipe. if you play with the manifold long enough you should be able to get it off without removing the studs, I know I didnt take out the studs.

Good luck with the install
