Painting Brembos how to

I repainted my Brembos over the last couple of days and I thought I would share the experience with all of you. You'll find that this how to is quite similar to another on the site explaining how to replace the clear coat.

1. These are the two sprays that I used. I don't know the part # of either one but I purchased both from advance auto. The other materials you should consider are listed below
A. Very stiff bristled tooth brush
B. 400 grit wet/dry sandpaper
C. Newspaper
D. Masking tape
E. Brake Cleaner
F. Time and patience

2. This is my caliper before anything has been done to it. That's nasty.

3. I have given the caliper a good washing in this picture. One of many washings.

4. Here I have sprayed the caliper with brake cleaner. Don't freak out it's going to look bad if your original clear coat was in real bad shape. This isn't completely necessary to do but it makes it a lot easier to get the heavy buildup off. Clean off the caliper thoroughly.

5. Do a light sanding of your caliper. You’re basically trying to remove any noticeable clear coat. I sanded the caliper a couple of times washing between each sanding. The last sanding I did was wet.

This is my first write up so I'm not sure how to put more than 5 pics in. Therefore this is going to be a 3 post write up. #2 coming in about a half hour.

6. After you have done a couple light sandings and have covered the area pretty well, you're ready to paint. Make sure you cover the bleeder valve (I don't have it covered in the pic).

7. This is after the first light coat. Make sure the paint is dry (after about 10-20 minutes depending on how heavy your coat was) and look around for any blemishes. As you can see I found some and sanded them down. Clean the caliper off again and you’re ready for another coat. Repeat this process until you’re satisfied with your results.

8. This is after 4 coats. I applied one more coat after this.

9. Now apply the decal or whatever you plan on placing on the caliper. This is before the clear coat.

10. Now apply 3-4 coats of clear waiting about 10-15 minutes between each coat. That's pretty much it. You're done!
