DIY Engine Dress-Up Bolt Kit on a Budget

All parts are from BoltDepot.

BoltDepot currently does not ship outside the USA. If you are in Canada, Allens Fasteners ships to Canada, but you can order these bolts from any online retailer. I won't be doing the legwork to find part numbers there but bolt size, thread spacing, and bolt length are included on all of the information I posted below. You can order bolts from anywhere you please, all you need are the measurements!

I would recommend high-temperature anti-sieze of some sort. I used stuff rated to 1500* from NAPA

Grand Total: $16.72 + Shipping
(as of writing this)

I would order extras of stuff. It's dirt cheap and if you end up having to pay shipping again you will kick yourself (shipping is was $10 on my first $25 order and was $10 on my most recent $5 order). Order extras now and just have them on hand if you need them! There are many other bolts in the engine bay that you can replace, these are just the "main" ones that I did

Things I would order extras of (maybe 10 each? they cost next-to-nothing anyhow)

6x#6687
10x#2941
4x#6700

Special Features:
  • If you wish to change the color of the bolts (I wouldn't recommend as the paint will be stripped / scraped off where the allen wrench sits) or the finishing washers / washers (these are the only things I'd paint), DupliColor MetalCast works great for that. G35 Driver did a good write-up on coloring with the DupliColor MetalCast

NOTES:
  • You can replace any of the 6 valve cover bolts with the #6689 bolts and #14 finishing washers if you prefer that look
  • [b]You should specify that you DO NOT WANT knurled bolts if you order the socket caps bolts listed for the valve cover / timing belt cover / etc. Knurled bolts have a texture around the head where-as smooth do not. If BoltDepot does not have smooth cap bolts in stock they will call you and discuss your options with you. This isn't mandatory, but smooth cap look much more professional and cleaner than knurled

THIS KIT WILL NOT REPLACE:
  • The four bolts on the top of the front bumper (I'm missing some hardware so there's nothing to screw them into. You could also buy some #4776 or #4795 nuts to screw the 4 bolts into that you'd put there
  • Grounding bolt just below the front of the fusebox. I'm not an electrician so i didn't replace this but I'm assuming there's no issue using a stainless steel bolt for this? I have extras that I'm going to replace it with later
  • The two bolts holding the larger fan on the engine-bay side of the radiator. These bolts are threaded like wood screws and I'm guessing they screw directly into the plastic as opposed to being truly threaded
  • Any of the bolts on the right side of the engine by the valve cover (cam angle sensor and whatever the hell else is over there)
  • The bolt holding the throttle cable on the front of the valve cover (#6417) is recommended for that

The website above doesn't ship international...
for Canada owners, I searched a lot and I think the best/cheapest choice is Ebay for the same socket head bolts.

edit: Also: http://www.allensfasteners.com

Since this is an informative thread. Please add this information:

If you would like to add a little spruce of color, recommendation: Duplicolor MetalCast

Review: additional info

Nice write-up. I will be doing this shortly!
