aids. Also, a conversion like this requires alot of technical knowledge and being able to
do things like weld. Hit up mirageforums.net and take a look at my3awd's build in the
members rides section. His car is a good reference to the kind of work that will need
to be done. He has a beautiful Evo 5 clone.
good luck on the build but i must question your claim of the 4/5/6 being more 'raw' than the newer cars. cause the 03-04 evos have no aids and by the looks of your pic that shell has ayc. do you plan on removing it and replacing with a RS diff?

^Yup. No AYC for me. That diff and pump will be for sale on here shortly. What I
mean is that the old Evo just seems more like what an Evo should be. A beasty
turbocharged AWD version of the lame econobox lancer shell versus the newer Evos
which are totally different from the lancer. Nothing against the new Evos! Don't
misunderstand, I think they're all awesome cars. They're just different, and I personally
like the older version better. Like I said, there's no question whether the newer ones
faster, the old one just has a more "fun" driving feel in my opinion. It's hard to explain
without actually driving one yourself.

I've owned a VI and IV and currently own a VIII. I'll won't derail your thread with my opinion on the matter but good luck with the build and keep us informed with lots of pics

It's cool. Will do! Man you had a VI? Sweet... I wish we had gotten them over here
in the US. The world would have been a better place. Actually, if you want I'd love to
hear your opinion on the differences between the three cars. Shoot me a pm if you
have time.

Picked up a set of Evo 8 coil packs today. Apparently the Evo 4-9 coil packs are all
compatible with each other. The only difference is the boot that goes down to the
spark plug. I just popped them off the old packs and put em on the new ones.
If there are no other issues, then it should run on Monday!

Have fun, I know what it's like doing a swap. Some suggestions, do things right the first time, check all your wires, triple check all bolts, swap all fluids, doing all OEM maintenance on the engine while it is out and be safe.

Well bad news guys. The engine has crankwalk. I knew the risk I was taking buying
an Evo IV engine, and it appears this engine is junk. There's 75,000ths worth of
end play on the crank. Oh well. Anyway, I trust the guy that owns the shop where I
got this engine from as he has been around mirageforums for quite some time, and he's
promised to take care of me here. I forgot my camera today which sucked cause now
I gotta waste gas going back downtown tomorrow to get pics and a video of
everything to send him. Should be either reimbursed for a good portion or get a new
longblock. (or shortblack, I don't care) Anyway, no huge damage done, (yet) but it
does set me back a bit for the deadline. On a more positive note, the JDM Momo
wheel is installed! Pics to follow...
