How long will brake pads last?

How Long will brake pads last with city driving and are the OEM pads worth the money versus,EBC brake pads. Or do you recommend a different pad. How do I measure the pad for wear? And at what point do you replace. Thanks for the help,

Very good question, i've been wondering when I should replace my OEM pads. I'm currently at 15k miles.

I'd check them when the service manual said to, but if you are not hard on the breaks, they should go to at least 30,000 miles, probably more.

It all depends on how you drive and were you drive. I replaced my front pads at 7k miles, but then again I live in NY and I did go to a driving school. You can do alot of highway driving and barely touch the brakes, this way you may get 80k miles out of them, just too many variables. I now run Ferodo pads and they seem to hold up pretty good. With Brembos it shouldn't matter what kind of life you get out of pads, its like having a Viper and worrying about gas mileage.

for those of you that said the rotors were screwed, did you replace them, or was resurfacing sufficient?

Rotors usually never need to be resurfaced if you change your pads prior to them getting really worn down.

I changed my stock pads around 26,000 miles for the front and back. Like everyone said it really depends on your type of driving.

Pad thickness at needed change

Thanks for the response. Is there a "squealer" when they are ready to be changed or do you have to measure the pad thichness? I have a ford 350 and did not properly bed the brakes or the lugs were not properly torqued. They wrapped at 14k and 24k. They going again at 60k I started maintaining the truck myself, watching the lug torque. I use the Evos brarkes hard in trying to learn how to heel toe and just having fun driving. I want to start measuring pad thichness at tire rotation unless the Evo has the squealer.

Thanks again
