Is bigger better on the EVO?? wheel?

I seen many people run 18 and 19 inch wheels on the evo, what are the reason, advantage, disadvantage on the bigger then OEM 17 inch size??

IMO I thought 18 and above is too big for the Evo. What do you guys think??

I think 18's are good, the right wheel looks tite. bigger though....dunno, The rotor and calipers i think look great basically crammed in the wheel, kind of like "does the caliper clear?"

No real advantage. just for looks in going with a larger diameter wheel. Now, going with a WIDER wheel, that's a different story.
Ideal size IMO for dual purpose street and track use: 17 by 9" w/ 30 offset. but that's just me.
19" on an Evo is WAY too blingy.

rotations per mile, tire circumference, tire height, etc. all play a factor. you can tune a car with tire height and circumference.

mostly for looks, though. i personally think that 18's fit the wheel well great. without lowering the car too much. 19's are too big for this car.

Adding an 18" wheel will reduce sidewall height. This typically improves cornering performance over a taller sidewall 17" tire. Also depending on the tire you can gain some gearing advantage too by reducing the overall height.

So no, it's not all for looks.

The problem with bigger wheels is they ususally are heavier thus increasing unsprung weight. More unsprung weight will not allow the suspension to react as well to changes in the road surface which will cause you to loose traction. If you loose traction, your car will not handle as precisely as it was designed to handle.

two reasons, either brake fitment or tire fitments.

many tires are not available in good sizes for 17" wheels. especially slicks, hoosiers and many high end r compound tires. people seeking to run 275 and 285 can only look to 18s for tires from pirelli, dunlop other mainstream companies.

only people that are used to catering to sport compacts and track monkeys carry biggie tires (275) in 17", companies like toyo, falken, kuhmo etc. and even then none make 285. and nothing has to be said for 305 and beyond.

+1

also if you look at some high end sports cars they come with 18" and 19" wheels stock ... like the ENZO comes with 19" wheels

bigger wheel (that are light ... just because they are bigger dosnt mean they are heavier .. My 19" wheels & tires weight less then my stock 17' set up did) = reduced side wall will help out in handling ... its all a matter of how you tune your car and what you think looks good.
