KYB Stock Shock Lifespan?
Hello everybody,
I am looking into lowering my car ASAP, i dont currently have the money to go with Coilovers so im turning to Springs. I am currently just under 70k miles. And wanna know if putting springs on the stock shocks is the best idea to do @ 70k miles?
How long did ur stock shocks last before they went out?
Where u lowered? State your setup?

First, going to some coilover, is not always the best route. Regardless of money.
How long struts last - depends. All struts go at some point (coilovers too).
I would source out a used set of KYBs or used Bilstein MR set. The Bilsteins can be rebuilt, where as the KYBs cannot.
There is also word that another set will be on the market soon. Looking forward to that project.

I swapped out my kyb's for some bilsteins with swift springs at 60k. When I did the swap the shocks were still working fine but two of them were starting to leak so I'm sure they wouldn't have lasted too much longer. At 70k I would say that it's really not worth it to put your old shocks back on. Pick up a set of used bilsteins, you can have them rebuild so they're like new and put your springs on those.

Eibach's with stock kyb's?: 3 years, no problem's. drop is 1" all around.
buying springs that lowers more than 1" will shorten your shocks life. Blisten's are a bit stronger, it all depends how long they can hold.
Same thing is with coilovers, if you buy cheap ones? usualy shocks give up and they need a rebuild. so buying coilovers you need at least $2000+ KW, or ohlins.
