Question Federal SS595 Tires and your thoughts on them?

With spring around the corner and tire packages coming to mind, I found out a lot of guys using Federal SS595 on BMW, STI and RX-8 forums when I google searched. I tried searching EvoM for anyone using these with no success and wanted to know, are there any guys running this tire and what are your thoughts on them? Also your thoughts on Federal tire in general as they have been around a long time and I'm wondering why they don't have the rep of Hankook, Falken and Nitto, all of which started off small as well.

I'm looking for a well priced tire to test out for the summer and I'm wondering if these are worth a try.

I had a set they were decent tires for dry conditions...but sucked in the rain...and they did not last very long either...i'd say less than a year.

I ran them in 255/35/18.

Hard as. They were crap, especially in the rain! My car was slipping around everywhere!

If you're going to try a federal tire, go for the 595rs-r. Better side wall, still very inexpensive and if you're looking for a summer tire it'll work great.

My next set of tires will be a set of Bridgestone RE11, Hancook R-S3 or Yokohama AD08.

Im sick of going cheap and having my car slip and slide around. Its a **** feeling.

Anyone else have any feedback? Looks like I may be going a different route based on the fact not many Evo guys have ran these.

They're crap. Hard compound, really soft sidewall. Terrible dry grip, terrible in the wet. I'm about to mount a set on my car for just getting around town, but I got them used from a friend for less than $50, so I don't have much to lose. The only reason I got them was because I was in a bind with no safe street tires left in my garage. If you want a pretty decent tire that's inexpensive, go with the Hankook v12 Evo.
