$1000.00 to spend on Adj. Coilovers: What to purchase?

I have owned my Evo for almost three years, and the issue I continuously find myself having is always replacing worn struts, strut mounts, and springs. I use OEM struts with stock or lowering springs, but they wear out and it is costing a lot of money over the years to replace all of these parts.

Note: I do buy these parts used, so I do know they will not last me 5 to 7 years.

I have 1000.00 to spend, and I want to buy NEW not used suspension. I take care of my car and I would like to know where the suspension has been its entire life.

Here is what I was looking at.

TEIN basic

D2

Godspeed ( which I am thinking they're ebay coilsovers )

If anyone can give me their opinions, or what they feel would last me 2-5 years, that would be great!

Thanks again.

I plan on 2" to 2" 1/2 - I will have it lowered in he summer, and raised in the winter. I live in Michigan, and Possibly Chicago soon.

I am looking for quality more then anything.

You are not going to find any coilover of quality for $1000. Your budget needs to be more than 2x that...If you want a great setup that will last I'd recommend a new set of Bilstein HD's paired with stock springs or either Swift GTworx or Robispec springs and new top hats. That should come in right around $1000 will ride great and will last you a while.

I will look into that set up. I am curious what new top hats cost through Mitsubishi. The Blistein HD, those are the MR struts?

Bilstein HD's are firmer than the MR struts but they are replacements. If you can source bilstein b8 sp's they are designed for lowered cars but will probably need to be custom ordered.

I shall look into those, where can you order then? Are there certain sites that are better then others?

I've heard only good things about Fortune Auto coilovers. If you can come up with another $200 you can usually find them new, with a 5 year warranty, for about $1200 shipped.

Save up $200 and get FA coilovers as stated above. They're a step above the rest. Build in the US. Excellent warranty and customer service. They also come standard with a 2 speed valve; first valve takes care of the load on the car when you are in a turn, the high speed valve assumes the bump you hit in the middle of the turn which greatly helps from unsettling the car. Ohlins is the only other brand that offers this feature as far as i know, i could be wrong but i do know its not something offered by BC/D2/TEIN/Ebay.

If you're still interested in the bilstein's here is a great site.

And if I didn't live in a place with bad winters and crummy roads I'd get the fortune autos.

Fortune Auto is the cheapest I'd go (and I think that its still a bit more then 1 stack). I wouldn't go any cheaper if you must have coilovers.

Contact Terri at FA, if you go that route. I can confirm their customer service rocks. Very cool people, very nice products, and they build to suit your needs.
If I was starting over, I'd get their two-ways with the Swift spring upgrade.
But yes, definitely more than $1000....That's okay, though because for just a bit more cash, you get a LOT more shock.
