Roll racing/ half mile racing, which tires?

I'm looking to either do a 1/2 mile or roll races later this summer, I've noticed no one really uses full slicks for these evens, why? I have two sets of wheels and tires, looking to see if I should run my hoosier qtp/fd rx7 wheel combo, or my evo x Enkeis with bfg kdw2's? Are the qtps too soft or something?

Would some drag radials work best for something like this?

Thanks for any input

Best results would be to post up in the Drag forum or in Motorsports

The Nitto NTO5R seem to be pretty good option on the half mile stuff. They had those on the Evo 8 mph record holder, but then ran 200mph+ on pretty much street tires and 18" ones on the EVo X.

How much power are you making? If your not spinning tires on the highway under WOT any summer tire will do. Assuming they are rated for higher speeds than you will actually reach. Since you are not launching from a dig I would think slicks would be overkill.

You don't need a tire any stickier than what you require to get traction. You would just get extra rolling resistance from a slick or even drag radial if you do not need the grip.

I've been wondering about this too. I know a lot of the english racing guys rock Toyo R888. After a little research I think the Michelin Pilot Super Sport are on about the same level as the R888 but less track oriented. I've read they run quieter and last a little longer.

Michelin PSS are not even close to, or even in the same general area as, an R888...lmao. Your talking about a summer street tire with a 30k mile tread wear warranty vs a dedicated Rcomp. Not even close.

Yeah you right. My bad. Just seen a lot of people recommend them for good grip and less noise. If you were to travel long distances to races and whatnot. What you personally recommend?
