Big Brake Kit, 6 Pot w/ 14" Front Rotors

Hello Evom'

Please shed some lights on me,

did some track event last year, and after 4-5 Laps, I can smell my brakes and I felt

less gripping from 120-130 ish MPH to 30-40 MPH going to hard corner almost throw me out of track!

do I need big brake kit? 6 pots , 14" Rotors?

Currently:

435 WHP
Brembo Rotors / Slotted ( 3000 miles)
Project MU Pads ( I forgot the Part number)
Motul Fluids.

thanks

Without seeing how you drive and considering I know nothing about those pads, I'd still suggest a better pad, as Sean says. You shouldn't have that kind of trouble, at all.
Be sure the brakes are bled correctly, make sure your pads are good and properly bedded, and you should be good to go, brotha!

Thank you for the replies guys.

yeah. I am hard on brakes, just my 1st track event and kinda used the brakes a lot

instead of using apex.

its been almost a year since the event, and did saved $$, and really plan to upgrade to 6 pot caliper, E.G. Ksports? BAER? (my budget range)

it will be more effective compare to stock? I mean noticeable when it comes to hard braking? Because moving forward, my aim WHP will be 550-600 WHP.

First track event? I have a feeling you need more driver mod. Especially before you up the HP. And you certainly need better brake pads. Something like Raybestos ST43 or ST47, racing brake XT970, etc.

Say 1st Track Event with Official Time Attack. Buttonwillow Raceway.

I did some autocrosses and some "driver training" but still track run with no transponder. (for insurance thing).

but yeah, i will check out this pads.

just need more confidence on my brake set-up in time that you do hard braking if in-case.

For reference: I'm on stock brakes and have never had the problem you are describing. If the pedal felt find, just no bite, definitely go with a better pad.

FWIW: My Harry's Lap Timer is about .02-.08 sec different than the transponders I rent. I no longer rent transponders, so your insurance company will never know the difference

Try upgrading the brake pads. I remember driving Buttonwillow CW13. My brakes were fine the entire day. I ran track pads and never had any issues.

Upgrade to Raybestos ST43 before you spend $$$ on a big brake kit.

I've also had good experiences with CL RC5 and DTC60 pads.

i agree with this. lap timer records 2 mins - 9ish sec average, but the transponder was 2 mins 11 sec. lol

if i go 500-550 ish WHP moving forward, does the stock Brembos and Raybestos and Hawk Pads will still hold though?

i mean, my point is, i don't want to invest for new pads and rotors if it will not hold with this projected WHP. ( maybe a year or so) and then upgrade it again..

500whp is a ridiculous amount of power for road racing. You may need to upgrade a whole lot not than brakes.

That's a big difference. You may want a better timer.

Based on my experience with brake systems this kind of power is more in the supercar territory with 3000lb + vehicle. The stock Evo system will not be enough for serious track duty, it is not even an 18" brake package.

In regards to circuit driving, cooling is key. If you track a vehicle without dedicated cooling ducts its like running a race without shoe laces.

Lower the power, better pads, better fluid, ss lines, good bleed, better tires.

I used to run
Hawk dtc 60 f/r
Stop tech ss lines
Motul 660
Rs3 255/40/17
Centric blanks rotors

Never any issues, ran great for me the socal tracks sow, big willow, cali speedway(145+mph)

I upgraded to stoptech trophy fronts because I needs new rotors pads, and a rebuild on the calipers plus I had a hookup. But running a 17" rim is important for me. Tires are much cheaper.

I may be really lucky, but I have the dust shields and nothing more than the OEM air guides. Then again, I don't know that I've seen much more than 125ish MPH (in 5th gear and going too fast to check the speedo before the braking zone LOL), so that could be why.

+1. I basically run the same setup. I didn't notice any difference between modern rubber lines and the SS lines, once I installed them, but everyone told me to get 'em LOL.
I will bet money that you will go faster with less power. The amount of grip and braking needed to keep 500whp in check is somewhat extensive.
