Amp replacement project checklist

Hey guys,

I am FINALLY closer to actually doing this...FP Green was my priority

I want to replace the oem Amp and have read alot, but I want to dbl check with everyone first.

My goal is to kinda follow webman and use a JL M4300 amp because they are ~ $250.

Webman provided his oem amp for me to chop up and use as a pnp harnes connector.

Here's what I think I need:

JL M4300 amp
Active crossovers
Harness pnp adapter (made by me from webman's OEM amp)

I want this project to be fully reversible, as everything I've done to the car has either been 100% reversible or undetectable.

I am not a car stereo guru, I know enough to get by so keep that in mind.

Do I really need to run power wires, will the stock wiring harness power leads not provide enough power for my chosen amp?

You will need to run new power and ground wires as the stock harness is insufficient because you're going considerably higher in power than the stock amp.

Again, I'm not trying to be to much of a car stereo newb, but Rockford Fosgate claims the OEM amp can deliver 650 Watts. We all know that's probably not true.

So, even if RF is smudging the numbers why would I need to rewire the power wires to handle 300 watts? That is less than half of the advertised RF specs.

Here is the RF writeup:

You're comparing apples to oranges. It's not about power; it's about current. You're also assuming identical operational efficiency and the existence of a perfectly benign load, as well as "watts" having an identical meaning in this context with no regard for its constraints. Upgrade the power wires. Good luck.
