Tempting... the only thing that's been holding me back from purchasing a Kenwood unit over the last few months has been their un-compatibility with iPhone 5 in advanced app mode and video playback. Do you have any information to suggest they are working out the issues?

As for Direct plug I don't have a solid answer for you. You most likely will need an adapter, and will not have video capability. But I will let you know as soon as I have a better understanding. as info on the iphone 5 compatibilty changes daily.

Forgive my NewBness - but will it display EVO Scan (to read the car's gauges through the ECU port) directly?
Or do i still need a separate computer (and does this unit accept the input from a computer)?

My understanding is it is compatible via Bluetooth functions.
