Replacing the upstream O2 sensor with wideband?

Has anyone successfully replaced the upstream O2 sensor (right before the cat) with a wideband sensor?

Part of this would include using the 0-1v narrowband output from wideband controller to send a signal back to the ECU. The other part consist of a high wattage resistor to simulate the heater on the narrowband so the ECU doesn't throw a code.

My question is does anyone know what ohm value resistor is needed, and also how much current the heater circuit outputs?

Has anyone successfully taken this approach?

Have you checked to see if the front sensor is a wideband sensor some cars (VW) use a wideband on the front o2 sensor?

our front sensor is a narrowband.

I've not heard of anyone successfully doing this though.

Nope, I think he really means the front (further down stream in the downpipe than in the DSM's, VIII, or IX in the outlet elbow from the turbo)... the rear O2 sensor is in the middle of the cat's two banks of catalytic material.

It is so much easier to add a second bung to the downpipe, or test pipe that I am not sure why anyone would try this with the front O2 sensor though.

Off topic content, but it is impossible to PM Tephra so I am posting it here:

Hey Tephra,

I do remember you once saying it was possible to put a "voltage offset" on the front O2 sensor to affect idle, and cruise A/F ratio's, and at the time you could not see any reason to do so. Well, while running E-85 you can lean out the cruise and idle A/F ratio's for improved fuel economy without significantly increasing combustion chamber temperatures or causing knock... so being able to do this when running E-85 would be a major improvement... how do you adjust that perameter in the ECU code?

Thanks,

Keith

Yes, that is what I meant.

I haven't successfully completed this project yet because of lack of information and priority changes. I was kind of hoping someone else had tried it and could provide some insight because I don't want to tinker too much with my daily driver.

I actually have a test pipe sitting in my garage, but the car is just far too loud with it (also running the ETS V2 cat-back), so I chose not to run it.

I'd prefer not to modify stock parts hence why I didn't get an extra O2 bung installed in the stock downpipe.

FD - sorry I had visions of the IX exhaust in my head ummm create a new thread for you Q, list your ROMID - i will try and find the offset...

MP - dont put a WB02 into the mid cat, its just too hot...

your best bet will be to put in a HFC or tap the frontpipe... (or if u really must use the TP then that...)

you can disable the rear02 using pbits+my dtc disable, then just wireup the analog output from the WB controller to the rear02 signal wire, thus letting you log...
