Overboost/Loss of Power/Car emitting Smell

Here is what I have:
2008 Gsr
AMS Intake
GFB BOV
TOPSPEED pro1 CB Exhaust
Cobb Accessport

My car has been performing flawlessly for month up until a couple days ago. It has started over boosting up to 30 psi when I had it consistently in the 24s with the stage 1 lwg tune. It also losses acceleration in the high psi range when it should be peaking acceleration. It also started emitting a slight odor. Could this be a boost leaking? The car performs and runs perfect when driven conservative. It idles smooth and no engine lights. I also checked accessport for codes and it shows none. Any thoughts?

it's probably loosing power at 30psi because it's running dangerously lean. like "burn a hole in the piston" lean. it could be also seeing knock then pulling timing, etc.
all bad. do NOT let it go above the boost you are tuned!

That would make sense. My mechanic added a gas treatment in the gas tank when he changed my oil. Do I just simply just need to burn threw this tank of gas and it will be ok or do I need to change my oil too?

"Gas treatment" won't increase boost, but never put that snake oil into your car regardless.

Check the lines to your EBC. Other than that, try reflashing the map onto the car.

Thanks for the reply, I'm taking it to my mechanic at lunch today and do a compression test and check the EBC. I have reflashed it to stage0 and even back to the stock flash and it is this spiking to 28ish psi.

i'll follow up after check.

Does the ams filter get oiled? If so, clean your maf sensor.

Your boost controller should be the source of over boosting.
A quick test would be to bypass it then make a quick run.

Hi,

Guy here in Oz had similar over boosting issues and on advice from his tuner went back to stock BOV and they went away. An easy thing to swap and check. Could also be lines in/out of the 3 port but unlikely. That being said have you done a boost leak test? If you've access to a compressor the partsyou need cost less than $10 from Home Depot or similar - just Google 'boost leak test evo x'

Guess I got my car back and it was the MAF sensor. It is now boosting to 24ish psi and then tapering off. If I have anymore issues I will post back here but for now it is resolved.

The MAF caused an overboost condition? I gotta look that one up.

In first gear my RPMs shoot to 6 with almost no power. Not sure if that's the same issue you were having as well.

Sorry I missed understood the tech he said it was the boost pressure sensor. That sounds more about right yes?

if it failed to control, boost, then yes. if it was bleeding off too much, the WG wouldn't ever see it's target boost it would stay shut. then your motor goes boom. good thing you caught it sooner than later.
