ATTN: EVO 10 Owners, Run a manifold heat shield or your car could catch on FIRE.
Short version: If you own an EVO 10 you must run the stock or some sort of exhaust manifold heat shield or you will eventually burn your firewall, valve cover, wiring, or the car to the ground.
Long version: Yesterday we had an EVO 10 on our dyno for tuning. During some preliminary cruising and getting things set up it was noticed there was smoke pouring out from the back of the engine bay near the turbo. Sure enough the material on the firewall was burning and a hole about the size of a golf ball had formed. I quickly got some water and put it out but the damage had already been done. The wire loom had melted off a wiring harness in the area and the firewall pad had been burned up pretty good. I have no doubt in my mind if this car had the plastic valve cover it would have melted also.
I noticed when spraying the area with water that the water was actually sizzling off of the strut tower brace. Needless to say it was HOT back there. And this was without doing any WOT pulls...
This isn't the first time heat has taken its toll on an EVO 10 engine bay I have seen ABS modules burn up and plastic valve covers melt.
If you have an EVO 10 RUN THE STOCK EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT SHIELD, IF YOU BUY A TURBO KIT MAKE SURE IT COMES WITH PROPER SHIELDING. Stock frame turbo, PTE turbo, Garrett turbo.. it doesn't matter. The area around the turbo on these cars does not do well with alot of heat like the 8s and 9s did.
My main goal with this post is to warn the owners of these cars about this as I don't want anyone to have their car burn to the ground or even worse. You will notice in our turbo kit we have both a manifold heat shield AND a firewall heat shield.

And also their new custom/prototype manifold shield they made for me: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/9990004-post45.html
These along with ceramic coatings should be a very reliable and safe setup IMO.
