I want to quiet down my Evo - any advice welcome

I purchased my latest Evo with the following mods listed below already installed.

While the car is fun to drive, the sound is getting to be annoying. It's not that it's super loud, because it's not, but the resonance is getting to me - like a constant "thrumming" or drone or a really loud vacuum cleaner, particularly when letting off the throttle. Any suggestions for quieting this thing down or changing the tone so that it's not a constant noise, but without sacrificing much (if any) power?

Change the exhaust out for stock or a different type of exhaust. Otherwise this really isnt the most quiet car..

You could add a large resonator or a second muffler in line. That would help.

Stock X is quiet when I got my new 14 MR.

You'll want to add a cat, quiet cat back. That should make a big difference.

I have stock cat and Magnaflow dual tipped cat back (made by Magnaflow) - really quiet.
Sometimes I think it's too quiet.

Thanks. My 2008 was quiet with stock exhaust. As noted, this one is not loud, just "droney". I didn't know if adding a mini muffler or resonator would do the trick, but hopeful that it will.

We have an exhaust system available with a larger muffler (similar to stock) but, with full 3.0" piping.

I wanted the same thing and went with a Q300 which is large muffler + resonator, then I got a TP with a resonator too. The ETS version should be just as good tho.
Quiet at idle and part throttle but really opens up at WOT, sounds great.

But my MR has tons of sound deadening so I'm told it's still pretty loud lol.

Couple of notes...

I need a better understanding of your definition of quiet...

Some basic suggestions. Go wit a stock O2 housing and a 3" DP. Use a high flow cat. That section should also be 3" inches throughout. From there you have options.....

1. Get a USA made 3" quiet exhaust. ETS and COBB both make one. ETS has a Quiet Exhaust for a screaming deal....ask Mike at ETS. Cobb's is also mandrel bent in house using overseas steel.

2. Get a 2.75" exhaust. The Tanabe is very quiet. Rule of thumb, the horizontal, to exhaust flow. Equal ports flow a bit more compromised at higher(400) horsepower but, they are much quieter compared to the round straight through muffler/resonaters.

The full 3" will flow more efficiently, even better catless, however it will be louder, smell worse, higher SOX and NOX, etc...depending on company and muffler design

Good luck and happy shopping.

p.s.... this is what insomnia does, damn forums...lol

My friend has a full turbo back exhaust. Very loud car until he changed his test pipe to a resonated. Silenced it quite a bit. Def is quieter next to mine!
