Reports of Mil.Spec HFC failing?

Hey guys,

I am contemplating getting a HFC because the smell of my TP is getting to me (yep must be getting old)

No I don't have an exhaust leak as every single gasket in the system from the head to the tail pipes were changed and all components are fairly new.

I have heard of a few brands of HFC failing and becoming clogged, has anyone heard or read of Mil.spec's failing?

And on a related note, for Mil.spec HFC owners, did the HFC cut down on the smell?

Ive never heard of a mil.spec failing out of the blue. There was always a reason like too much backfire.

i m using the Mil - spec now for years. Never failed on me even though i dont use it on a dd car neither circuit track car. In rally gots a lots of stress, like rocks - hits - cold - rain - snow etc.
Works fine , doesnt smell more then a stock cat.
and looks cool too

I have a Mil.Spec cat that was custom fabbed from their 100 cell core. It sits where the cat normally resides on the car, unlike the pics above. It definitely eliminates test-pipe stink.

I have run this cat for 11,000 miles with no issues.

mine is sits there, because of the rally. I think they have a bolt on option too, direct replacement for the stock cat.
Even if not, the local shop can do it in an hour.

2nd Mil.Spec cat with 15,000 miles no problems.
The first i had for 10k miles but I blew it out only when unburnt fuel was dumped into exhaust when licp blew off.
Now that I have t-bolt clamps I'm sure it'll last for a long time

Like you I HATE the smell w/o a test pipe. It's not the same as OEM cat lack of odor but it's MUCH MUCH better
