Leaking fuel or running rich?
I just finished a long raceday at High Plains Raceway in Colorado.
The day went great and despite it being 105 degrees out, my little evo didn't even raise a tad in engine temp
Anyway, there was one bit of concern that I don't know how to address:
Fuel smell.
As i raced around the track I could smell the faint whiff of raw fuel, not exhaust - just pure gasoline.
It would go away the moment i pitted in, and after me and three other guys checked the car - we saw no leaks.
It is my daily driver as well, and on the way to work i got no smell of gasoline.
Just when i am out on the track hard on it.
Any ideas? Should I be concerned?
Is there any "good upgrades" that evo x's are known to need that help prevent a lot of fuel issues?
And in case it helps here are my upgrades to the car in case its any of those causing the smell...
3.5" aftermarket intercooler
Agency power full turbo back + dual exhaust (no cat converter)
aem intake
tune
Thanks!

Not that this answers your question but there are a few threads about the raw fuel smell and they all describe very hot weather. I think the suspicion was due to venting of the gas tank. Idk. Just mentioning that there is info on here about it.

No that's great! I can now also look into "hot weather gas smell" and other stuff like it, it's at least one possible starting point.
Thanks!

I found the raw fuel smell on Evo X! I saw a post where someone had the vent flaps in the rear bumper had fallen out and was hanging inside the drivers side rear bunker... I looked on my car and sure enough, mines hanging in there also. I payed on the ground and stuck my arm in and popped it back in. All is well now.
