Alumilite

I'm going to make a couple Alumilite splitters this weekend and was curious if anyone knows a good way to fill the edges in so you don't see the corrugation? I know I can get moulding but I was looking for a way to fill the edge with something to give it a more "flat one piece" appearance. Not sure if maybe body filler like bondo would work or maybe some type of epoxy?

Thank you

Yea I have seen that but I'm looking for a way to fill it in with no moulding.

Thanks

Try something urathene based, like the urathane adhesive they use for auto glass. Something like this http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=464397_0_0_

It connects to a caulking gun that you could lightly inject into the edges to fill them in.

Ok cool I'll try that. Maybe push the corrugation back an 1/8" or so and fill it with the "caulking"

Thanks.

I actually had the same exact question. Isn't it also a safety hazard as the exposed alumite could slice into your shins?

I think the impact of the car will do more damage than the splitter.

If you are talking about when it's parked, DONT WALK SO CLOSE TO MY CAR!! Lol seriously though, I hate that. Lady walking by with her purse flapping around 2 inches from my car when there is 10 feet either side!

I ended up getting 2 sheets of Dibond but the guy gave me white when I wanted black so I guess I have to figure out what's good to paint it with. They had already cut it. I hate people that don't listen. I can tell half the time so I repeat it a few times and they get all huffy, but if I don't they screw it up. I even had a discussion with the guy about what kind of black it is, matte or gloss. Then I tell him he got the wrong color and he says "you said white". I said "don't you remember explaining to me what black it is?"

Anyways no biggie, just a little extra work. I had them cut 4 6" wide pieces to make side splitters for my friend and I as well. They should be pretty sharp so watch your shins.

I was talking about more for yourself! Can you imagine bending over your engine bay for an hour and slicing your shins open? I definately can.

I'm about 3/4 of the way done with my Alumalite splitter and would be interested in talking to you about your plans for mounting it. PM me!

I will let you know this weekend. As of now I haven't really looked under the car. I'm going to cut it first then hold it up under the car to find the best locations to attach it.

I think posting here might be better than PM should somebody else want to try it in the future or they have a better idea.

My plan for the front support rods is two of them through the grill mesh and bolted into the crash beam.

I'm also thinking about adding two towards the corners. I have the Fog deletes so I was thinking of going through the delete mesh on each side and mounting to the frame rail end or something close by.

Go to Google images and look up Alumilite panels and Dibond. I don't have photos with me. I can take some when I get home

I use alumilite for mock-ups sometimes
for edging you could use j-channel aluminum, or, black plastic door-gaurd stuff like APR uses

mountwise, I'd just shoot some self tapping, course thread screws from the underside into the lower bumper with some washers.
