If you want to be a zinc snob, at least tout Brad Penn.

There's nothing wrong with Mobil1. There's tons of CT9A and CZ4A Evos that are daily driven as well as tracked, with healthy original engines and over 150k that have run only Mobil1.

I'd ask if you are opinionated, but your username already answered.

He's being a zinc snob, for an engine that doesn't even require high zinc/ZDDP...

Whenever I do oil changes for a customer, if they don't "care" what oil goes in the car, it gets Mobil1. Perfectly acceptable oil for a stock or bolt on car.

I spoke to FP and they said Rotella T6 is also acceptable to use. But I might stick with VR1 as well on the summer days, something I stock at work as well as the T6.

If they have this in writing anywhere, I'm definitely going back. VR1 is f'ing pricey and I don't think it's any better, to be honest.
I may also stick with a 50w during summer, if i do track days in that heat.

The FP journal bearing turbochargers are what creat the requirement for a high ZDDP oil. The OEM turbo, and any ball bearing turbo, do not require a high ZDDP content oil.

Another vote for Shell Rotella T6 and car runs like a champ. I don't plan on changing any time soon.

I don't know if it has been mentioned, but I an many others Have ran Shell rotella T6 with very good results. I started using it in my mazdaspeed6. Rotella T6 is a Synthetic Diesel oil designed for high load, and oil sheer resistance (fuel in the oil). Oil sheer is common on turbo charged, and especially direct injected engines where the High Pressure pump is run off of a cam shaft. Ran it in my MS6, my Evo X, My wifes '15 WRX, and will run it in my Turbo prelude when I finish the engine. It has a fairly high zinc content.

It has been. Many, many of us are familiar with it. Good stuff! Gets my vote.

The Mitsu Dealership in Linden told me the Evo X starts out with conventional oil (I had a blank look on my face, didn't make sense). The first oil change i did was to the Mobil 1 Synthetic.

I'm still on the OEM turbo, but will move to the MHI-18K soon so I'm wondering if i should stay Mobil 1 or change to a different synthetic oil. A friend of mine also mentioned the Shell Rotella T6 on his EVO X; I'll probably will look into that one as well.

The MHI18k is an OEM turbo. No need for special oil.

I never understood this oil misery since day one. If you don't have a build engine. Mobil 1 with factory specs are 100% sufficient doesn't need reengineering. If you do heavy tracking then change it to different weight for a track day, also change it what the weather change requires.

If you have a build engine, and you cant find the recommended weight etc. with Mobil 1 then I do understand the necessity to find another brand.

Mobil 1 in all my cars for those who lives in the USA, at least since 2004. NEVER been any issue what so ever in any of my car.

rule of KISS applies here for sure.

The reason Mitsubishi no longer requires synthetic oil is because Subaru said you can use conventional oil and being the STI and Lancer evolution are in direct competition they did not want any kind of additional maintenance cost to be associated to car as a downside. Correct me if I'm wrong but in 2015 the base STI & Lancer evolution were the exact same price down to the penny.

A few years ago most al manufacturers lighted up on oil specs. Extending intervals etc. The interval was also extended by Mitsubishi and Subaru. I have owned two STi and three lancer evolutions.
