Interesting thread. Doesn't make sense to me to skimp on oil changes for a car with this high of an MSRP. Not like it's a Hyundai

Agreed, 100%. However, There's "skimping" then there is "not paying a lot of money for a name".

Change it ASAP. When I got my FE last april I waited till 1500km for the first change. it was black. Could just be my car though. Also, Mobil 1 is fine for me. alot of people swear by other brands. I have not yet tried other brands personally, but I'm not burning or loosing too much oil between changes (5000kms) so I'm not gonig to change anything. Good luck!

Assuming Mitsu doesn't do any oil changes after assembly, black oil is to be expected. Lots of assembly lube, etc.
Mobil 1 is a great choice and can't go wrong with it. If you are looking for something the same (or better, according to some reports): Rotella T6.

Funny enough my Hyundai is way harder on oil, due to the nature of GDI-T engines and in the name of preventing LSPI events which plague them, one looks to the top of the food chain if you will with their oil choice

My Evo doesn't give a crap. Def always use a syn but any off the shelf in your grade will never give you an issue.

Go figure right...

Oil always turns black. Don't think I've ever done an oil change where it wasn't black

Indeed it does, I only mentioned it with because I did not expect it to be that dark at 1500km (checked my records and I changed it at 1500km as opposed to 2500km). As kaj said, assembly lubes etc. mixing with our engine oil. I personally don't like the idea of having anything but engine oil circulating inside my block.

Have used Mobil1, Pennzoil Platinum, Pennzoil Ultra, Castrol Edge(gold), Castrol Edge(Black), Amsoil OE, Amsoil XL. All in 5W30. They all work fine.

I tend to stick with Mitsu OEM filter.
