It allows more air either going into/or exiting the boost control solenoid, since this ultimately becomes the wastegate actuator signal I wouldn't start removing/altering them without it being required by a tune or installation of manual or electronic boost controller.

this is NOT as easy as it sounds... on my 08 X GSR i cant even get the hose off the connection to remove the pill.. i bought the cobb tuner i used it then i decided to remove the pill to remap for stage two... i tried and tried over and over pulling on the hose.. it stretches .. but will NOT come off the darn connector... i gave up and remapped to stage one where you dont need to remove the pill. hehehehe

with a hot engine bay and some pliers the top tube will come off easily.. if you have to use a screwdriver "pick" it's a pointy end driver to hook the hose as you, slowly but firmly pull the hose off the barbed end. once that is done then take a small allen key wrench to put slide in to the hose while pushing the pill out.

I've done this process a couple times and it's worked for me. as for the pill direction.. i didn't make a note on which direction it should be.. but ive never had a problem either way.. a hole is a hole.. unless it's supposed to have a "venturi effect" then the direction would be important.
