AFTERMARKET STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION. no codes/no Airbag lights
This is my personal description of my own experience installing an aftermarket steering wheel
for a 2008 Evolution X GSR. All the information, again, is based in my own experience with the specific mentioned parts.
It’s you own responsibility if you cause any damage to your car or violate any law.
Parts Required:
1. Works Bell Boss/Hub for Mitsubishi evolution x.
2. Works Bell Rapfix II Steering Wheel Quick Release.
(You don’t need a quick release to make your steering wheel work).
3. Sparco Competition 215
Or any other aftermarket steering wheel (check always for compatibility between your selected steering wheel / Quick release / Hub).
4. Mitsubishi OEM center console switch panel Part # 8011A267
5. Mitsubishi OEM blank button plug. Part # 8050a018 (buy two blank buttons)
6. Mitsubishi OEM AWC center console switch Part # 8610a019.
Tools Required:
1. Phillips screwdriver.
2. 17 mm socket and Torque Wrench or Ratchet
3. Pliers
4. T30 Torx screwdriver.
5. eye glass screw driver or any other spiky tool
6. Electrical tape, w2-40, razor blade, some rags, good illumination, and something cold to drink if you live in Florida.
Recommended Number of People:
Just one, but stay focus.
Difficulty:
Level 3.
It’s not hard at all if you know what to do in every step.
Take to the car the parts ready to install knowing what you are going to do. Don’t “open the UPS boxes” 10 minutes before unless
You consider your self a professional.
Prepare your self and you won’t have to spend 30 minutes like me trying to unplug the tricky Airbag plug
Time to complete:
2 to 3 hours
Now that I know how to do it I can do it in one.
INSTALLATION:
First at all, read, print, memorize back and forward the following amazing thread, since 50 % of the job is graphically explained here, I found pointless to explain all over again. Download and print the provided PDF document in the right order. I will refer to specific pages in the document.
How To: Factory Bluetooth Install for Evo X GSR
By: PDXEvo
Locate in the web the PDF file, printed in order. I will talk about specific pages
We can divide or work in these main steeps:
1. Disconnect your battery.
I hope you know how
2. Carefully remove your steering wheel leaving the horn and Airbag plugs ready for the next step.
PDF Document Pages 22-27
3. Install and secure your Airbag resistors (yes, two) provided by works bell into your airbag plug.
Try not to move your steering wheel sensor. It rotates free when you play with the airbag cables,
A little bit of movement won’t hurt it, but remember to place it back to the exact position that it was before.
Follow my scheme
4. Install your Boss or Hub unit where the OEM steering wheel uses to be. It is a perfect fit, stupid proof install.
Follow my scheme and photos
5. Pass your horn cable thru the Hub and connect it to your (+) quick release horn connection.
Follow my scheme and photos
6. Wrap your airbags resistors and plug inside the hub these cables are coming from the steering wheel sensor, so, it needs to rotate with the steering wheel. Again check that the steering wheel sensor is at the same place that you found it.
Sorry no photos of this part but at this point, you will figurate out.
7. Make all your horn (+) and (-) ground connections between your steering wheel / quick release unit
Follow my scheme and photos, read the Japanese instructions if you know Japanese or / and make your Google search. It is a piece of cake.
8. Have all your new AWC and blank buttons ready to install. Remove your center console to you have access to harness C-31.
PDF Document Pages 38-40
9. Unplug harness C-31 and switch the cables order.
PDF Document Pages 38-40, I’m also providing detailed photos
10. Plug harness C-31 back. Put center console back. Now you can finally plug your new AWC console control.
PDF Document Pages 17-21, I’m also providing detailed photos
Installation Scheme.
Some extra photos and tips:
After Disconect your battery, Uncover this plastic part under your steering wheel in order to unplug the Airbag
the Airbag Plug is triky, you will need to push to slice down the middle part of the plug. do not go crazy! you don't have to use any tool, just figurate out how to make it to release
After removing the plastic bottom of the steering wheel (two screws)
you can start uninstalling the Airbag Unit
i'm using an Arley tool to loose the screws .it won't came off since they are designed to stay there
one the screwsare loose, start pulling the airbag unit out. and wuala!!! airbag out
notice in the photo, the yellow plug that we disconect
This is the back of the Airbag. and that's why we need two resistors to conect
Time to take the steering wheel out. spray couple of shots of w2-40 and give it 10 minutes to work. protect the steering wheel sensor with some rags.
use a large wrench to take the steering wheel bolt out, a 2 feet long torque wrench with a 6" extensor will do the job like piece of cake.
Time to install the resistors provided by works bell. follow the photos and sheme. piece of cake
still confuse? take another picture
secure and protect with a good electrical tape your resistors and plug. install your hub, notice that the opening in the hub in the left botton part, perfect to pass your horn cable inside the hub. wrap your airbag plug and resistors around the hub, secure them so they move with the steering wheel when you turn left or right. pass your horn cable inside the hub to conect it with the quick release base next.
From here, the rest of the steering wheel installation is basic, just follow my first scheme how to conect the horn.
Now the AWC control relocation.
Again. follow

i will asist the installation with some of my photos.
ones you take you center console out, this is the harness c-31 that you need to modify. this is looking at the area beteen the two front seats. you need to take out the black part of the plug,
This is the black plug. relax, drink a whole monster energy drink can, seat confortable with the electrical scheme that PDXEVO provided
and study what cables you have two move
you really need to move only two pins inside the harness, one black and one blue one
find how to open the harness the way that i'm showing in the picture
insert a pointy tool the way that i'm showing. it will help you to release the pins that you need two move
close your harness and this is how it will look modified
plug the black plug back in the harness. put your center console back.
Plug your new AWC control.
did we finish? yeap. i did it.
and yeap! no AIR BAG CODES or anything. it works and feels amazing!
good luck !
and sorry about my poor english, it's not my natural born language

I hope you are running Recaros or Brides with a 3point harness, racing helmet and a roll cage on a track-only car if you are replacing your steering wheel and removing the airbag. Otherwise hope you never crash because you will die when your face smashes into the steering wheel.

Nice!.....Just make sure you line up the notch on the steering wheel sensor to the hub or else the steering wheel sensor will not rotate 100% with the hub which will cause the CEL to come on......heres my setup
