HOW TO: Remove door trim pieces.

HOW TO: Remove door trim pieces.

I could not find one on this subject, so I thought I would give it a shot. This is a pretty easy one, but if you don't know what to look for it can be tricky. It is written for a beginner level.






First grab your remote and press this button to unlock your doors.





On the door there are 3 screws that need to be removed. The small cover by the door lever doesn't have anything keeping on, but the larger one by the handle does.





Now you need to remove the tweeter by pulling out on the assembly. Not much force should be required for this.





Next is the door panel removal. Start pulling outward around the tweeter area and work your way around the door until all 11 clips pop out. There are also 2 cables attached to the door handle, and 2 wire bundle connectors that need to be disconnected ( not the cables ).






Now that the door panel is removed, you need to remove the top row of screws (5)from the white plastic piece, and 1 more right next to those at the front of the panel. Once these are removed the door kinda wants to come apart into 2 pieces. It is really your choice if you want separate the top and bottom pieces. I did not, just to facilitate an easier install.





Now the 6 clips holding the trim on the door panel can be removed.





Here is what the trim looks like on my garage floor. Pretty much the same crap as in the car.





Here is the trim after the vinyl wrap is applied.

nice job, I have my dry carbon di-noc waiting in my garage for this when the temp drops below 100...

Great write up. I'm going to do this as well. Did you make the change because yours was becoming discolored? I don't mind the look of the stock pieces, but when they cloud up, it looks like ***.

Also, how much DINOC did you need for the job?

Nice job. I've been planning on doing this for awhile.

How did you get that piece out that is to the left of the steering wheel?

how much di-noc did you use to do these interior pieces? I'm wondering how much ill have left over.

Thanks, mine were not becoming clouded, I just wanted a different look. I actually used two 12" x 48" rolls of the 3M Dinoc. I did have some left over, and that was enough for all the trim pieces, around the shifter, around my overhead light. You can check out my build thread for more pictures.

Thank you. Pull back on the weather stipping by the trim so you can remove the plastic piece on the end. That piece will slide out toward the rear of the car. Then pull down on the panel below that trim ( it just has clips). Then the trim can be removed.

resurrecting this from the dead, in the hope that it would save someone the agony of "broken" tweeter covers.

my tip would be :

treat the front door no different than how you would pull the rear doors. there is absolutely no reason for you to pull the tweeter covers first. remove the 3 screws and just pry the door cover with your fingers. the tweeter cover will just come off "naturally".

IF you really must, say you are just replacing the tweeters therefore do not want to pull the door covers off then at least start from the "top" of the tweeter cover as there is a "pole" that inserts into a white plastic holder, this is what holds the tweeter in place. there are 2 "anchors" that slides onto the top of the door panel, i broke these 2 off.

if you look at the 3rd picture of the OP, you will see the "pole" i am referring to, this is closet to the pointed part of the tweeter cover.

now that i am looking closely to the OP's picture, you can tell the 2 anchors i was talking about are almost good as gone. they havent broken off but it seems they are facing down already. i pulled mine in 20 degree weather and both broke right off.

after doing my driver side first and figuring out what just happened, i went to the passenger side and did what i just mentioned above and no broken tabs or anything.

hope this saves someone their tweeter cover.

Did you use any primer when doing the wrap or did you just use the Di Noc wrap without primer
