I don't have to debunk something that's never been substantiated by a valid source to begin with. Autonews used the ambiguous "According to a source". Meaning "We're talking out our ***."
Conversely, we all knew recaros weren't going to be there as soon as mitsubishi published their list of evo changes and the word recaro was nowhere to be found. There was exactly a 0% chance they wouldn't advertise a big name brand like recaro if they were still on the car. It was plastered all over every other evo spec sheet pre-2015 reports.
The brembos are another example. The original "rumor", which was started on this forum btw, was that the evo wasn't going to come with recaros. Someone made a post saying brembos weren't going to be included, either. The spec sheet came out like 3 months ago listing brembos, meaning the person who stated that was talking out his/her *** (which he/she admitted to ~2 posts later after stating it in the first place). However, people seem to have selective reading, and I was still seeing people ask if the brembo rumor was true up till a few weeks ago.
Sorry, but I have resentment for people who don't know how to N&R. I'm a long time participant on the most functional, comprehensive, fast paced N&R forum on the planet: Nasioc's N&R. They have systematically weeded out all the sensational false rumor posters there.

The last special edition I can think of that was released for a sports car here in the US was the orange wrx/sti. That was utterly fail. The US does not have a strong history of receiving cool one-off special editions. We wouldn't be willing to fork out what they would want to sell it for or they think we wouldn't be interested in heavy delete models like the spec-c sti. They're probably right, because the s2000 CR came standard without ac or radio, but you could option those back on. It is damn near impossible to find a delete CR in the US. Everyone added the creature comforts back on... very unfortunate, but we are who we are. Couple in a lack of flexibility in dumb things like EPA restrictions and NHTSA, and you have a very hostile special edition market.

AN's report was confirmed to us by Mitsubishi spokesman Alex Fedorak, who said that, yes, there will be "a US special edition in 2015."
