too cold for my brain to think outside...i need audio help.

Here's what we've got.....

new Aiwa head unit. works fine on stock speakers.

kenwood kac-927 amp. got everything grounded and it fired right up. i used it in my Sonoma so i know that it works.

rca cables from HU to amp. just pulled them from my turntable setup so i know they work fine.

now the question is....why can't i get any sound out of the speakers. i've checked, cut, and recut the wires from the amp to the speakers so i don't think it's them. i could be wrong. the amp is in fact turned up loud enough so sound should be coming out but not loud enough that it'll turn itself off.

i also hooked my mp3 player to the rca cables and didn't get any sound. it's frickin cold outside (michigan) and i can't think of anything else to troubleshoot. i'm thinking of pulling the box back inside and testing it again on my stereo....

ANYTHING you guys can think of that i might be missing?!?!?!

well, i would assume since i can turn the amp on and off by dis/connecting the blue wire from the HU to the amp that it's hooked up correctly. i think i'm gonna pull the box back in.

what kind of RCA cable is it? This may or may not be related but cable thickness and distance can imped the signal from the HU to the amp to the point where it wont send enough power to amp. I had this happen recently with some speaker wire for my home theater. The wire was great for my surround speakers but I had just moved and needed longer wire so I bought thicker wire and used the thinner wire for my fronts so I could move them out more. Well my reciever would kick off after2-3 seconds. It was killing me trying to figure out what the hell it was. Had to call Sony.. they were like.. hmmmm no idea.. I trimmed the extra 4 feet!! off each wire and it works like a dream.

That might be your problem if the RCA is not good enough.. Try monster cable.. =)

Doesnt it feel great when you have an audio problem like that and you finally think it through and figure out the problem, then you fix it and it works? That happened on two occasions for me: when I was installing my head unit and when I was installing new speakers. I eventually got both working, but boy was it a relief when I figured out what was wrong. If you sit and think logically about it long enough, and eliminate all your possible theories, it doesnt usually take too long.
