I dont know much at all about car systems so these may be dumb questions. What are the diffs between subs and and a bass tube besides their makeups? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each? I want to put one or the other in my lancer in the future but i dotn really want to add a lot of weight.

well... the good thing about a bass tube is that has a built in amp, and is lighter. The thing about the bass tube is that you cant pump much bass out of them. You can also run them on stock decks.
With subs you have to change alot of things to make it sound good, ull need a sub, a box, amp, wiring, a deck, and prob speakers....
So its basically what you want.... do you want something really loud and expensive.... or something cheap with decent sound.

i dont need anything really loud/powerful but i do want a nice improvement out of what i get out of the stock speakers. what would be the price range of a decent single sub and all that is needed versus a decent bass tube?

u can prob pick up a basic setup for under $200 if u have a deck alrdy its not that much of an issue bass tubes imo suck but i work for a car audio and home audio and video store so im a lil more picky

I dont think they suck at all.... I use to use my bass tube with my stock deck and speakers and it really improves it well...
I really noticed a difference when I took my bass tube out and had just the regular stock system

i have a friend witha bass tube in his wrangler so ill see what his sounds like.

Bass tubes are ok if you want a really basic system and your not looking for that much bass especially if your running stock speakers etc....
Subwoofer will blow a bass tube out every time its louder way more powerful sounds better and just overall a big step up. The only downside to the sub is you need an amp and if you want to keep a ballanced sound its best to replace you stock speakers and deck. and if you are running a lot of power (more than 500 watts) to your sub you should really consider putting an amp to the rest of your speakers as well (if you want good sound quality)

yea it really depends how serious u want to get. bass tubes will definately add bass to your music, but a subwoofer and amp will do that job way better. i guess it's a matter of how much you want to spend and how much bass u crave..

i dont really want to spend too much bc id reather put the money itno performance parts so hopefully the tube will be enough for me.

I put a bazooka tube in my evo and I love it. Here's why. I don't need anything that rattles the windows of my neighborhood but it is that extra little something that supports the stock speakers. I love the size, it's really lightweight with power built in, and the price was great for what I got. I only paid $150 from crutchfield.com for the 6" 100 watt sub. It doesn't take over my trunk space but it really adds what was missing from the stock system. Now if you want to really bump all you need is a bigger bazooka tube. The biggest one that they make is a 10" with 200 watts for $300. It's not going to win any contests but you will DEFINITELY notice a big difference. Or just add 2 tubes and you'll really get bumping. Just my 2cents.

Yea for me I'm going more for an all around great car... My evo will never be setting speed records for the 1/4 mile but I'm ganna try to get it into the low 12's for a street car thats all I need. If I want to go faster than that I'll just take my croch rocket out. So I chose to put the money into a Full custom JL audio system. If you decide that you ever want to upgrade to a full sound system let me know I know some good places to get stuff and Ive had 3-4 sound systems so I know a few of the do's and don'ts

That's a good price and a lot of power. As long as it's fairly new you should be good.
