Question lancer timing belt?

I have a 2002 oz rally lancer and i brought my car to the dealership for the fan cooler recall. While my car was there they called me and said that they suggest my timing belt be changed along with some other belt (I forgot the name) because my car has 65,000 miles on it. So they told me it would cost $550.00 to have the belts changed. Is this a reasonable amount? If not, do you think a different auto service shop could do it for cheaper other than a dealership. Has any one else had this done, and if so how much were you charged? Thanks...

YES. Anyone else would be cheaper than the stealership!

Although it does sound high. My dealership quoted me $300-400. But you should have it done. If those belts snap, your engine will be destroyed. recommends changing them at 60k. And you may want to think about getting the water pump done too. I've heard they can crap out.

Yeah it cost around $525 to get my timing belt and water pump changed on my old car.I'm sure you could find a better deal at a local shop than a dealership.

For a timing belt on a 4cyl I would take it to the dealer. The price you were quoted seems to be okay. The reason why you should take it to the dealer is because the timing on a 4cyl is very touchey and being off 1 degree can be the end of your engine. They know your car the best, they can get the parts the fastest.

Yes get your waterpump done at the same time.

Water pump is always suggested to change at the time of timing belt. Since it is so much to have a timing belt to be put on, you don't want to have to take it off again to change the water pump. So since the water pump can go bad, you should get it odne at the same time.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the other belt is a serpintine belt.

The other one is the serpentine belt... or the drive belt as Mitsu told me... I had that one replaced recently b/c they said it was cracked...

My timing belt, I had done at 118 KM only because I didn't have the money to do it right away at 96 KM as Mitsu wanted. They were looking for just about $1000 to do the timing belt and water pump... I got one of the guys from my local Mitsu club (MCCC) to do it for me - he charged me $500 for the parts and installation...

I had mine done for $250 by a local guy. I got him the parts. He did the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs, and brakes.

Quick question though. I got the timing belt from ebay and I think the timing belt was for an 02-03, but the belts are the same for both the 02-03 and 04-06 lancers right?

Also when I turn the car on, there is a big squealing sound that last for about 2 seconds could that be the serpentine belt. Once the car heats up I don't have a problem with turning the wheel and all that good stuff.
