racing fuel, success

hey, just wanted to throw this out there>>>

a friend of mine tipped me off on running racing fuel (110 octane i think) in the oz the other day.

working GREAT so far! i did about 5gals of it, then topped 6gals of premium 93 in and the performance increase was pretty amazing.

he said aside from just great gas mileage, it cleans out the grime on rods, pistons, exhaust etc.
and while burning the racing fuel up the other day on the hwy, i was hitting 6psi (+1). probably had a lot to do with changing the fuses and cleaning the sri as well.

so let me know if you have tried it and had success as well. i really had no idea about this, thats why im posting up about it

theres better/cheaper alternatives, such as E85.

since you mixed 110 with 93, that lowered your octane.

did you retune for the higher octane? otherwise its a waste

This, unless the car knows there was a higher octane in the tank, you won't have made any more power. If you're not getting knock on 93, 110 or whatever the octane actually was can't do anything (ie. it can't prevent knock that isn't there in the first place). The Lancer has no way to detect boost anyways nor does it use different, turbo maps (ie. a high boost, high octane map and a low boost, low octane map). Sorry to say, but the difference was in your head.

yea amby ur probably right on the knock predetonation, since it is a turbo lancer after all.
just seemed like the throttle response would increase a bit because of the 110 being resistant and burning a lot cooler.

and i dont think it would be a total waste on the otherhand. it does cost more, but pistons cylinder are getting cleaning out in the process so you can run a little cleaner.

Octane won't increase throttle response. As I said, there's no point in increasing knock resistance if you're not getting knock, that's like reinforcing a door that doesn't budge in the first place. Yes it will burn slower but if you're not tuned for it, you can't take full advantage.

higher octane fuels has the same cleaning additives as lower octane fuels.
It's still gas, the only difference is it's resistance to ignite under higher temperatures.

You want clean? Check out the alternative fuel section in the evo forums and look at the internals of an engine that's used E85.

Yup, I've been using it for months now.
Its cheaper than 91 and the peformance increase is awesome. Can't ever go back.

With e85 even if your catless you can't even tell, your exhaust actually smells good and you don't have to worry about smelling bad

I have only run 87 and occasionally 91 in my lancer no difference in power. Now my 68 firebird that I run 91 in and have purchased 5 gallon drums of 118 sunco fuel. The place actually sells 87 100 and 110 out of the pump funny thing is the 118 is cheaper then the 100 and 110 out of the pump and you get a cool gas can!!!
