Car jerks betweens speeds of

35mph and 45mph and the transmission if automatic. The car will jerk slightly like at 35 to 40 but between 40 and 45, it will jerk a little hard and I'm thinking it's having trouble downshifting because when i speed up from 35 to 45, no jerks at all but when I slow down, still having my foot on the gas it'd jerk. Also, if I drive right at 40mph, it will jerk the most. I'm thinking my gearing might need adjustment. Also I have not changed the oil in the tranny yet and I'm past due but I doubt old oil would cause the jerking, correct me if I'm wrong. The car doesnt jerk at all at other speeds, only between speeds of 35 and 45.

hmm.. ever since I put on my header I feel my car has a harder time de-revving. Mind I'm automatic as well... If i start going fast til about 40 and then come to a sudden stop at a light... i get the proble. I take my foot off the accelerate then switch to braking. As I do this, the Car still has High Revs and I can feel it not wanting to stop as I apply braking force. The revs stay up coming to a stop and when it starts slowing down it'll jerk, then stop.

Strange stuff... My brakes are good.. but I've debated between the header and the 18's.

It jerks forward. I have had that problem with the rev saying up but mine didnt jerk at all and it doesnt happen often. The car only jerks between 35 and 45 and when I go 40 it'd jerk forward as if it's trying to downshift, that's my assumption.

Yes, our trannys have this problem. Even my '03 does... If I'm hard accelerating up to right before the point the tranny knows to change gears and I let off, it'll jerk you into the next gear. Because like Walle said, our engine/tranny does like to slow down/lower revs before it shifts in that instance.

But if you get this jerk during every shift point, no matter if it's floored or just crusin', I'd say there's something wrong...

So I would need to get the gears adjusted?

I think you would need to get used to it. I don't know of there being a "fix" or solution for the problem...

You reset the ecu by removing the negative side of the battery for 10mins?

yeah.. then I believe let it idle for 10-15.. then take it for a very slow drive for 10 miles or so!?! Thats what I did after my intake.. It will shift really slow and funny at first while its still learning your driving style again... But it works itself out.

That's just a temp fix. The problem will continue to arise. Been there, Done That!

The ECU and Tranny are going to learn the way you drive after some time. It'll adapt to your acceleration habits and hence problem will continue. Drive like a lil' old lady, it will shift early. Drive like a maniac, it'll run high on the revs before switching over.

I think problem isnt serious. It's my driving habits that caused this, let me explain. Say I'm going 45mph and I slow down, but my foot is still on the gas, the car will jerk. Now say if I go to 45 and let the car slow down with my foot off the gas, no jerking at all. Now when I'm going at a constant speed between 35 and 45, there's no jerking at all and I'm above 2000rpm, now if I go below 2000rpm, slowing down, the car will jerk and that happens if my foot is on the gas. I dont drive fast, I'm zippy on the streets and I have done some hard driving and the jerking problem is most likely a product of my driving habits.
