trying to replace transmission filter in my 03 lancer ES

Hi Guys, So i am trying to change the transmission fluid in my 03 Lancer ES, i went to the store and bought the filter (looks just like an oil filter) and bought 8 quarts of transmission oil. I found the drain plug for the transmission oil, but i cant find where the transmission filter is!

Any one have any idea, i tried doing a search for this but came up with nothing. Thanks for your help ahead of time guys!

U have an automatic right?
if yes the filter is internal. You have to buy a new gasket for the transmission pan. so U drain all the tranny fluid and drop tranny pan and the filter will be inside. remove old filter and install new filter. clean the pan out and there should be a magnet inside the pan make sure to clean that also. any gasket material on pan should also be cleaned off to insure a good seal with the new gasket (do not scratch the sealing surface's!!!) also make sure before U drain the tranny fluid get your car up to operating temp before starting.

Use Mitsu ATF III available @ the dealership of course. And sorry to tell you, but all auto store computers list the incorrect trans filter. The trans filter is a thinner, narrow pan-like filter...not a circular screw-on one. I tried finding a pic for reference, but of course I can't remember the site. But all the items can be found at the dealership or online too.

i thought we have a sticky in the how-to section? i swear i saw it like 4 yrs ago, and that's how i did my transmission flush in my auto. the filter is a bi$$$. you need to remove like 16 screws to gt to the filter. gl getting the info, looks like they remove that sticky

ummm here's an old thread:

There is a drain bolt behind the driver's side wheel! I believe it's a 21mm?

DIAMOND ATF SP III is OEM fluid, and is recommended...an SP III equivalent will be better than nothing if your oil is really bad...
