Manual Trans. OIL

I have been trying to source out some oil for the manual trans. 75w80, min. GL 3. I am in Canada.

My mitsu dealer will sell it to me at 25$ per L!!! Crazy.

I tried to get my parts guy at work to find me some...the only place he could find was chevron, but they will only sell a pail minimum... So has anyone in Canada, or the US know where I could source a few litres from?

Thanks

That sounds about right. In US the only place you can get the Tranny fluid is the dealership. And the dealership charges roughly the same price. How ever on new lancers, you dont have to change the fluid until 60K

I found a place here in Vancouver, BC. For others, you may want to try racing performance shops.

Motul oil does produce this weight of oil.

Redline oil also make this.

Since the MTL is 70w80 and spec is 75w80, i decide to do 2 qts of MTL and 1 qt of mt90. I will be doing this Sunday and will post my thoughts and feelings on this mixture. I decided this based on some X owners using the same mix and having good results. X tranny has same spec oil as reg lancer (75w80).

Well, the MTL is "supposed" to be equivalent or in the range of our 75w80. This is a quote I took from their website.

"Satisfies the gear oil viscosity requirements of 70W, 75W, 80W, and motor oil viscosities of SAE 30, 10W30, and 5W30"

I will be replacing the oil in a few days with the straight MTL. Will post the results

So this oil is ok...

Just curious, at what mileage are you changing the transmission oil?
When is it recommended?

Mine was changed just about 33k mi; recommended usually 60k, severe is most likely 30k (not totally sure on these numbers). The 2 qts MTL and ~.6 qts MT90 feels much better than stock fluid. Smoother/quicker shifts, ESPECIALLY when cold!

I changed mine at 50 000 KMS...equivalent to about 30 000 miles. That is following the severe schedule. which pretty much includes everyone!

The only place I could get it was the dealer. I was told that it is specific Mitsubishi oil that needs to be used.

Camshaft,
I need to be changing my manual tranny fluid. Did you order it online from the site you provided? Did you do it yourself? How do you do it? Thanks in advance for your help.

This thread has information on changing oil in a manaual tranny:
https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/la...e-service.html

Be aware that my post #9 is wrong about the location of the drain plug. Post #10 has a link to a very helpful PDF file.

It's a pretty easy DIY project as long as you get the car securely off the ground (ramps, jackstands, or a lift). As I recall, the pain in the *** part is getting oil into the fill hole. It's best if you have a pump that can pump the oil, as you'll be working against gravity. Something like this is likely to save you a lot of spills and some cursing:
