Idle drops when using HVAC fan
Hello all,
I just bought a used 2003 Lancer ES. I have noticed that when I use the fan on the HVAC system the engine idle droppes to about 700-800 almost stalling... It doesnt stall but I notice a significant drop in the RPM and the car shakes like it is about to stall... onlly if the blower motor is on.
Any ideas?
Second question.
Almost no hot air coming out. The heater switch is stuck at about 75% hot but the air never warms up.. I can live with the temp control knob being stuck, but I need hot air during these Canadian winter's
Is it easy to reach under the dash to turn the heat to 100% hot?
Thank you all

First thing's first, check your coolant level and fill if needed. On a used car with no maintenance record, I'd recommend doing a coolant flush anyway. While the coolant is out of the system, check your thermostat and see if it needs to be changed. In addition to all this, another problem could be that the heater core is clogged up. First start with topping off your coolant and try the heater again.
An idle speed of about 800 is normal for our cars.

Thanks for the update. Since I have posted this I have done a tune-up and the plugs I pulled out were worn... the electrodes were completely gone and I added new wires well the 2 only. THat made a significant difference to the overall running and idle.
I did add a new thermostat and that improved the heat though it takes time to warm up. I will try the coolant flush as I have no idea when it was last done and I will change the brake fluid while I am at it.. (new brakes on the front).. it is good insurance for the brutal Canadian winters
If I am brave enough I want to do the tranny filter and fluid change, anyone tried this? 160 000 KM and I think it is due.
Thank you

I ve read the 'How-to's' but I am not sure if there is a filter to change? I could just siphon the fluid out the dipstick tube but I prefer to do a real filter and fluid change if needed.
opinions?
Thanks
