The Catalytic Converter
What's up fellas, I got a question. My Catalytic Converter went out on my car. To my understanding the only function of this car is to help produce clean emissions for the air. But it won't pass smog with the engine light on. Is it absolutely necessary to replace it to pass smog or is there a work around?

do they put sensors in the tail pipe for a "sniff test"? if not you could try using an O2 sensor spacer...but really you should just replace the cat...they're like $60, and probably no more than $100 to weld it in...

I think you need a little more than a cat...don't you need the header pipe and cat combo because they come together--? Asking as that's what I saw then I am no lancer expert. With that said, it makes a huge difference in price and what you need to ask for IE not just a cat as it don't fit. Good luck.

if you have failed smog then likely you had p0421... I don't know about Nevada law but I think thy fall under federal (48 state legal ) system... In my case in California, the pic below you see 2 different cats... one on right is the oem one and one on left is carb legal one ( by magnaflow ) your's is gonna be ~$300 I think. Ca & NY cats are around 600 cause of CARB req'
if indeed its p0421, the cat and header are one unit

Ok, for some reason i can't post a new question. So I have to put it under this one. Sorry guys. So my A/C works on and off. There is a part that will spin when the A/C is on but when the part stops spinning the A/C blows hot. I'll add a picture of the object to this post.
the part with the two cylinders and screw in the middle needs to be spinning for A/C to work. What is that so I can replace it?
