Question Can I reuse a "used" transponder module in a new blank key for a new car?

Hi everyone,

I have just bought an '08 ES which has the keyless entry key/fob. I only have one key, and Mitsubishi wants an arm and leg for a new key. My locksmith wants an arm only but still. They both offer programming of the ECU (or key?) to match the key with the car.

My question is: if I have 2 used keys from another 08-09 Lancer, can I reuse the lock/unlock modules from inside those keys (which also contain the transponder) and add them to my new blank keys and have a locksmith program them for new '08 ?

The price of the key with buttons is quite outrageous so I want to save if I can.

Thanks

It should be able to happen, but first check with your authorized Mitsubishi dealer.
