One of the projects I recently completed for someone (A girl with a Chevrolet Cobalt) - Could easily do this for a Evo - or any vehicle, with the same approach. This person wanted pink and purple.

I did the radio, cluster, shifter and hvac controls.




























The cup-holders I built are much more extravagant.

I used 1/4" Plexiglas to make a light bar that fit its way around the edge of the cupholder. To do this I had to scan them into CAD.






I then drilled holes in both the holders and the Plexiglas to fit the LEDs.



I then added jems and jewels along with some glitter to make it really girly.



I then enclosed the entire project in a rubber like epoxy solution, so it would look like it was under water.



Here are the results at night:




The LEDs are wired to a circuit I designed that allows them to run at 15ma regardless of voltage (used voltage regulation) - The entire ambient circuit is designed this way.

Yes the LEDs are dimmable. The functionality of this works completely like factory, but I added a small switch so that she can disable the cupholders and a few other "ambient" lights in the door panels, floor wells and such.

I understand some of you are thinking "wow not really my thing", but please remember, the girl who owns this car is like a barbie-kind of chick. She's the type where mods like these to her car are analogous to her wearing pink lipstick and glittery nail polish. LOL. Besides, I like to push myself.

Just teasing. Great work on the bread board. How did you get the circuit lines so clean looking? Almost looks like it was printed on before etching.

I use a product called "PCB press-n-peel" blue. Print on the blue with a laser printer, iron it to the copper, then etch.

Thats alot better than the old school way of painting it on by hand. Great job and hope you don't mind if I rob the idea. I never liked how my Hvac is kind of one color (blue leds) and this would be a great way to fix it. Thanks

Your not really robbing it from me because I saw someone else do it, so I copied them! For etchant I suggest 3 parts H202 per 1 part HCl. For HCl I use muriatic acid available at your local hardware store.

FYI - this is also an excellent chemical to remove chrome from plastic chemically. I use it frequently when I want to paint chromed-plastic.
